Diogo Jota, whose full name is Diogo José Teixeira da Silva, was a Portuguese professional footballer. He was born on December 4, 1996, in Massarelos, Portugal. He played as a forward or left winger and was known for his clinical finishing, explosive pace, and dribbling ability.

Jota played for several clubs throughout his career, including Paços de Ferreira, Porto, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before joining Liverpool in 2020. With Liverpool, he won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup. He also achieved success with the Portuguese national team, winning the UEFA Nations League twice and making almost 50 appearances for the senior national team.

Tragically, Diogo Jota passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the age of 28, in a car accident in Spain. His brother, André Silva, who was also a professional footballer, was also killed in the same accident. The incident occurred on the A-52 highway near Zamora, where their vehicle left the road and caught fire. Jota had recently married Rute Cardoso on June 22 and is survived by his wife and three young children.
