Boston Red Sox plays regular this week

As the Boston Red Sox gear up for the 2025 regular season, this week marks a pivotal transition from spring training to competitive play. The team has a series of engagements lined up, including exhibition games and the much-anticipated Opening Day.

Spring Training Concludes in Monterrey

The Red Sox are wrapping up their spring training with two exhibition games against the Monterrey Sultanes in Monterrey, Mexico. These games provide a final opportunity for the team to fine-tune their roster and strategies before the regular season commences.

Opening Day in Texas

The Red Sox will kick off their 2025 regular season on Thursday, March 27, against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington. This marks the fourth time Boston has opened a season against Texas on the road, with previous instances in 1996, 2006, and 2011. The Opening Day game is scheduled for 4:05 PM ET.

Series Against the Texas Rangers

Following Opening Day, the Red Sox will continue their series against the Rangers with games on:

• Friday, March 28: 8:05 PM ET

• Saturday, March 29: 7:05 PM ET

• Sunday, March 30: 2:35 PM ET

These games will set the tone for Boston’s early-season performance and offer insights into the team’s dynamics and competitiveness.

Roster Updates and Injuries

As the season begins, the Red Sox face some roster challenges:

• Lucas Giolito: The right-handed pitcher will start the season on the 15-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain. Giolito, 30, signed a two-year, $38.5 million contract with Boston in January 2024 but missed the previous season due to an elbow injury.

• Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford: Both pitchers are dealing with injuries—Bello with shoulder discomfort and Crawford with a knee issue—which may impact the team’s rotation depth early in the season.

Looking Ahead

After the series in Texas, the Red Sox will travel to Baltimore to face the Orioles on Monday, March 31, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The game is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET and will be an early test against a division rival.

As the 2025 season unfolds, fans and analysts alike will be keenly observing how the Red Sox navigate these initial challenges and opportunities.[ez-toc]
