The Detroit Lions have solidified their leadership by extending the contracts of Head Coach Dan Campbell and Executive Vice President/General Manager Brad Holmes through the 2027 season. This decision underscores the organization’s commitment to continuity and sustained success.

Principal Owner and Chair Sheila Hamp expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to have Brad and Dan under contract for the next four seasons. They have been the driving force behind the rebuild of our football team and the success that we have enjoyed. The continuity they provide for our football program will continue to be the key to our future success on the field.”

Brad Holmes’ Impact

Since joining the Lions prior to the 2021 season, Brad Holmes has been instrumental in reconstructing the team’s roster with a vision for long-term success. His keen eye for talent has led to the selection of foundational players such as:

Penei Sewell (2021, 7th overall)

Amon-Ra St. Brown (2021, 112th overall)

Aidan Hutchinson (2022, 2nd overall)

Jameson Williams (2022, 12th overall)

Jahmyr Gibbs (2023, 12th overall)

Jack Campbell (2023, 18th overall)

Sam LaPorta (2023, 34th overall)

Brian Branch (2023, 45th overall)

Holmes’ strategic acquisitions culminated in a 12-5 record for the Lions in the 2023 season, earning the team an appearance in the NFC Championship game. His efforts were recognized as he was named the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) NFL Executive of the Year in 2023.

Dan Campbell’s Leadership

Appointed as head coach in 2021, Dan Campbell has transformed the Lions’ performance on the field. After a challenging 3-13-1 record in his inaugural season, Campbell led the team to a remarkable 12-5 record in 2023. This turnaround included securing the NFC North Division title and achieving the franchise’s first playoff victory in 32 years. The Lions’ journey to the 2023 NFC Championship game marked their first appearance since 1991. Campbell’s achievements earned him a spot as a finalist for the Associated Press Coach of the Year in 2023.

Chris Spielman’s Continued Role

In addition to extending Holmes and Campbell, the Lions have also agreed to a multi-year extension with Special Assistant to the President/CEO and Chairperson, Chris Spielman. A former Lions linebacker and one of the most decorated players in franchise history, Spielman rejoined the organization in 2021. His contributions have been pivotal in re-establishing a culture of excellence within the team.

Looking Ahead

With these extensions, the Detroit Lions are poised to build upon their recent successes. The unified vision and collaborative efforts of Holmes, Campbell, and Spielman set a promising foundation for the team’s future endeavors. As the Lions prepare for the upcoming seasons, fans and stakeholders alike can look forward to a period of stability and continued growth under this established leadership.
